Parents
“Any child who is self-sufficient, who can tie his own shoes, dress or undress himself, reflect in his joy and sense of achievement the image of human dignity, which is derived from a sense of independence.”
- Maria Montessori
Parent Involvement
Parents are an integral part of the Montessori school community and add to the spirit of the entire educational process. Parents may involve themselves in their children's educational activities by attending Parent-Guide conferences, observing in the classrooms, and by attending parent education. Parent Education events are offered throughout the year free of charge and all parents are required to attend a minimum of 6 hours.
Parents may get to know one another by joining us for our regular "Pot Luck" dinners, attending family events, helping out on work days, and by participating on committees such as Fundrasing, P/R marketing, Building and grounds, and Grant writing. Parents are also welcome to join the Board of Directors each year. Please contact the office if you have interest in becoming a Board Member, or if you know someone in the community who may have interest in this very important position.
The first Fridays in February and March are very special. These are "Men's Day" and "Women's Day" respectively. On these special days, parents and grandparents, or any other special men and women in your child's life are invited to come to school with their child/grandchild, etc. The guides turn over the classroom to the students and they are in charge! They love to show their special loved one(s) all they have learned. The children start looking forward to this day around December, so mark you calendars and plan to be here!
Parent Orientation and Education
Parent education evenings will begin on Tuesday, October 13th, and continue through May on the second Tuesday of each month from 7-9pm
"Parent Education has been so beneficial to our family. There is an openness and level of caring that allows parents to become vulnerable while feeling safe.... We have learned so much throughout the year - usually things we didn't even realize we needed to learn!" - A Parent
